This is a blog the follows the weekly adventures of a volunteer at the Pacific Marine Mammal Rescue Center in southern California. The PMMC rescues stranded pinnipeds that are found on the southern Cali coast. The animals are rehabilitated at the center, and once they are healthy enough to live on their own they are released.

What is a "pinniped" anyway?
Pinnipedia is the scientific term for "fin-footed mammals". They include the families of walruses, eared seals, and earless seals. In California you are likely to come accross 4 kinds of pinnipeds, listed below:
California Sea Lion
Northern Elephant Seal
Harbor Seal
Northern Fur Seal
fatpin?
Incase you were wondering, the name "fatpin" is a portemanteau of the words fat and pinniped. A fat pinniped is a healthy pinniped, so it seemed appropriate and maybe a little funny too.
